Further reports from China of a smuggling crackdown on the Vietnamise border are causing market anxiety about potential shortages and high prices for certain materials, in particular manganese flake.
A large percentage of Chinese manganese flake is illegally exported via Vietnam and offers from Vietnamise traders have reduced accordingly.
This news follows on from production problems in August caused by national power shortages, when the Chinese government diverted electricity from high power industries to residential use.
