Fire at Globe Speciality Metals Plant Halts Ferro Silicon Production

Production of Ferro Silicon has been halted at Globe Specialty Metals Inc plant in Bridgeport, Alabama, USA . No one was hurt in the accident but production is not expected to restart until mid to late January 2012.


The Bridgeport plant operates one furnace with production capacity for 35,000 tonnes of high grade Ferro Silicon per year, and is part of the Core Metals Group that Globe acquired for $52 million in 2010.


Globe Specialty Metals Inc is among the world's largest producers of silicon metal and silicon based alloys and is an important supplier of Magnesium Ferro Silicon, Inmould Magnesium Ferro Silicon Alloys and Ferro Silicon to ductile / SG iron foundries.
