Brazilian Pig Iron Producers Sign Environmental Agreement

All seven pig iron producers in Maranhão state, Brazil have signed and environmental agreement to protect the Amazon rainforest, which aims to stop the supply of charcoal from deforestation, and control the encroachment into indigenous lands and the use of forced labour.

Following increases in power tariffs by the State Government and prolonged major power cuts throughout India, the ferro alloy industry in Andhra Pradesh, which accounts for 30 per cent of India's total production, has reduced production by 40 per cent.
