Indian Ferro Alloys Producers Association Calls for Changes in Customs Duties

The Indian Ferro Alloy Producer's Association (IFAPA) has put forward proposals in its 2012 to 2013 budget for sweeping changes to customs import duties for Ferro Alloys and raw materials.

The proposals are for an increase in import duties for all Ferro Alloys from 5% to 7.5% excluding Ferro Nickel and the removal of duties on raw materials and ores used in the production of Ferro Alloys.  Current duties for imported raw materials range from 2.5% to 7.5%.

The IFAPA is hoping that the Indian government will also listen to recommendations from the World Trade Organisation.

Since Ferro Alloy import duties were reduced, Ferro Alloy imports have increased and the association argues that demand could be met from domestic Ferro Alloy production, with wider economic benefits of increased employment, taxes and GDP.

The imported raw materials and ores effected by the proposals include manganese ore, chrome ore, roasted molybdenum ore and concentrate, vanadium oxides, pentoixide and hydroxides, ammonium metavanadate, vanadium compound, vanadium concentrate, vanadium sludge and other salts of oxometallic acids.

The Indian Ferro Alloy Producers' Association (IFAPA) promotes and protects the interests, common to the Ferro Alloy Industry specially with regard to level playing field; bringing together and promoting cooperation among Ferro Alloy Producers in India.
