Review of European Union’s Generalised System of Preferences (GSP)

Since 1971, The European Union's Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) has ensured preferential import tariffs from developing nations, including Russia, India and Brazil.

The EU is proposing a major reduction in the number of countries included in GSP, which would have a significant impact on the import tariffs for pig iron, ferro alloys and base metals.

From 2nd January 2014, this may result in tariff increases of a minimum of 3.5% on products from countries no longer in the GSP scheme.
