TATA Steel Investing in Improved Energy Efficient Production in the UK

TATA Steel has announced a £3.5 million investment in improved energy efficient steel making production at its Rotherham plant in South Yorkshire, UK.

£2 million is earmarked for fume extraction, £1 million for quality inspection equipment and £0.5 million for steelmaking production.

The Company expalined that the investment improve reliability and efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions and increase production of high value steel products. The energy saved by fume extraction is planned to save 19,000 mega watt hours (MWh), enough to power four thousand homes.

A spokesman for Tata said "In the last year Tata Steel has invested more than £20 million in South Yorkshire. This is a huge indication of the company's confidence in our ability to produce some of the most technically demanding and safety-critical products".
