UK Motor Vehicle Production Races Ahead in 2011

The UK automotive sector continues to increase production with a higher percentage of cars destined for export, up from 63.6% in 2010 to 82.5% in 2011.

In August 2011, car production rose 10.7% to 86,250 on the previous year and engine production soared 14.4% to 132,501 units.  In the year to date, compared with 2010, pasenger car production has increased 4.4% and engines production has increased 4%.  This follows on from a very strong recovery in 2010 from 2009's depressed levels which saw an increase in car output of 27.1%.

Andrew Parker, Asmet's Operations Manager commented "It's very encouraging to see robust demand for UK automotive production, which we see reflected at many of our UK iron foundry customers who produce automotive castings.  Two weeks ago I was fortunate enough to visit the Jaguar Factory in Castle Bromwich and was amazed to see how many cars were destined for Russia, China and all over the world.  I believe that the UK's recovery and long term prosperity must be led by private sector investment in world class manufacturing for export to growing international markets."
